Highlights of Tibetan and Mongolian Collections
"Highlights of the Tibetan and Mongolian Collections"
Friday, February 24, 2006, 1:00 - 2:30 p.m.
Asian Reading Room, LJ-150, Jefferson Building
Reference Specialist Susan Meinheit will present highlights of the Library of Congress Asian Division’s Tibetan and Mongolian collections.
Containing both traditional manusccripts acquired during the early 20th century and modern publications from the diaspora, the Asian Division’s Tibetan-language collection is one of the largest in the West. It includes sacred manuscripts, musical scores, astrological almanacs and other rare materials. While less voluminous, the Asian Division’s Mongolian collection is also significant and continues to grow via the Library of Congress’ New Delhi Field Office.
The presentation is free and open to the public.
The Asian Division Reading Room is located in room LJ-150 of the Jefferson building at 10 First Street SE, directly across from the Capitol Building, near the Capitol South metro station.
